These works are the record of a journey begun many years ago, from the warmth of the Tuscan hills to the heartland of Texas, from France to California.

I never know why a particular subject will draw me in, why a bridge or a lonely dirt road will be the quiet voice that leads me to stand for hours on end with paint and canvas in complete solitude. The satisfaction for me is to end with a painting that the viewers can look into and see themselves, to have a sense of belonging to that view, of a forgone memory.

The majority of my work is plein aire, usually completed in one sitting. For me it is the only way to capture the sense, or feeling, of belonging to a subject, as in west Texas where the quiet lays out before you in the immensity of a desert sky. Plein aire painting is a place waiting to be returned to, take up brush and pallet once again and challenge the voice that drives one to paint a calice road over and over because it holds an ever-changing beauty.

Painting has become a bond not just with the creative process, but between the environs I work in and myself. The people I meet, the situations that occur, become as much a part of the work as the painting itself. It would be easy to retreat to the sanctuary of the studio if not for the joy this work brings to me. Even with all it's difficulties, land fenced off and owners awash in fears, there is still the chance conversation with an aged Italian sheep herder or a Texas rancher who offer nothing more than greetings and a quiet place to work. My thanks to them and the many others I have met on this journey.

I was born in Miami, raised in Texas and cultured in Italy, working for over twenty years in various mediums, the last 12 concentrating in oil on canvas. I divide my time between a studio in Tuscany, Texas and various points in between.
